Previous Name: Tim Drake
Myth: DC Comics
Past Life Information: Tim was a crazy-smart kid who figured out what supervillains hadn't managed: who Batman and Robin really were. Inspired, he began training to be just like them. When he realized Batman had become unstable after the death of Robin, he stepped in to take on the role. He was always the more analytical of the Robins. He was a little (okay, a lot) uptight and focused on perfection at all costs. He did manage to loosen up a little when he joined Young Justice/the Titans, forging a friendship with Kon-El and others. He was devastated when Kon died and sort of went off the rails for a bit. Okay, maybe more than a bit.
Current Name: Mateo De Luca (loved ones sometimes call him Matt or Mattie)
Age: 38
Occupation: Previously? Diplomat. Presently? Hermit.
Personality & Background: Mateo is intense. That's what people always said about him growing up. No surprise, considering who his family is. The De Lucas were some of the wealthiest property owners in NOLA and beyond, gobbling up real estate and building exclusive clubs and resorts and hotels all across the state, when they weren't just enjoying the glitterati lifestyle. They drove their children relentlessly toward perfection. Mateo excelled under this treatment, especially as he was the only child for years. He was the perfect son: perfect grades, perfect extracurriculars, perfect body, perfect record. He was driven to a near-pathalogical degree growing up, splitting his time between private magnet school, sports (QB of the Varsity team), student leadership (president), honor society (president), homecoming court (king), debate club (captain), and internships internships internships. He was averaging three-four hours of sleep a night for most of his high school years and got more full rides to all the top schools than he knew what to do with. This carried on into college and beyond.
Needless to say, he never had time to have a significant other, much less grapple with his sexuality.
Things changed significantly post-law-school. He returned home for an important series of internships with the attorney general's office and ended up settling down, wanting to be near his younger siblings as they moved through their teen years. He continued his political aspirations and did what he could to deflect negative attention off his twin sisters; his intense drive continued unabated. Things probably would have continued like this forever if he hadn't met Beau.
Beau was a revelation. He was sweet and funny and one of the few people who could unsettle the unflappable Boy Wonder. The two fell in love and began an intense, long-running relationship full of ups and downs and personality clashes. Mateo began devoting time to helping LGBTQIA+ runaways, and he found real pleasure and fulfillment in his work. With Beau, Mateo relaxed and learned to breathe for the first time in his life, but never enough--he was too conditioned by his parents, and it caused constant friction between them. Even so, he had every intention of asking Beau to marry him--he even bought the ring--when they finally broke up for good when Mateo was offered his first diplomatic mission abroad, which he took under pressure from his father. He left NOLA and his now-adult siblings and started a distinguished career as a diplomat.
Things were great in his career (if not his personal life) until they suddenly weren't. He suffered an intensely traumatic event followed by a complete breakdown that had him leaving the diplomatic corps and becoming essentially a hermit in a glorified shack in the Rockies to recover. He chopped trees and whittled wood. He fished with his bare hands. He went pretty wild for a bit there, and started finally re-discovering himself. ...until he got word that his parents had committed multiple acts of fraud and had fucked off out of the US, leaving his younger sister to pick up the pieces. He's recently returned to NOLA to help, a little raw and rough around the edges still but tentatively ready to rejoin the world.
